"Sid and Nancy," a film biography of the Sex Pistols, premiered in London.
Directed by Alex Cox, this British biopic portrays the life of Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious and his tumultuous relationship with girlfriend Nancy Spungen.
The story of "Sid and Nancy" is one of rock history's most classic and tragic. On the morning of October 12, 1978, Vicious claims to have awoken from a drugged daze to find Spungen dead on the bathroom floor of their room in the Chelsea Hotel in New York City. She had suffered a single stab wound to her abdomen from a knife that had been purchased by Vicious.
Although the true person responsible for her death remains unknown, Vicious was arrested and charged with Spungen's murder. Months later in a twisted rock 'n roll Romeo & Juliet fashion, Vicious was discovered dead as a result of a self-induced heroin overdose. A few days after Vicious' cremation, his mother found a suicide note in the pocket of his jacket, "We made a death pact, and I have to accomplish my part of the deal. Please bury me next to my baby. Please bury me with my leather jacket, jeans and motorcycle boots. Goodbye. With love, Sid."
